Caravan Porch Awning

An awning is an expanse of fabric spread tightly on a skeleton structure. Its primary use is to protect the exterior walls of a home or business establishment from the sun, wind and rain, such as a front door or a shop window. Its most popular use is to augment the living, working and storage spaces. The basic door and window awnings are built to be overhangs that can lengthen a faade, create an outdoor room and advertise like a billboard at the same time. And then there are larger, freestanding awnings that function like canopies, tents, carports and gazebos. They are excellent for use in the patio, deck or porch, for outdoor dining and reception, sleeping and recreation. One such freestanding type is the caravan porch awning.

You can generally find a caravan porch awning adjoining a motor home, RV, touring caravan, travel trailer or camper van pulled over on location during a family holiday, camping trip or summer vacation. They are used popularly by avid travelers and vacationing families to extend the temporary living space and sleeping quarters, thus adding a bit more luxury to roughing it outdoors. You can accommodate a guard dog in there, store wet boots and muddied wellies, eat outdoors, open the front and side panels out to convert the awning into a sun lounge, have a play area for young children or make an awning annex into a private sleeping area for a teenage child.

An established awning manufacturer like Walker, Ventura, Trio, Sunncamp, StarCamp, Outdoor Revolution, Omnistor, NR, Isabella, Herzog, Harrison, Fiamma, Eurovent, Dorema, Buccaneer, Bradcot Classic and Active, or Bailey would have some product features in common based on what appeals to consumers. The front and side walls are commonly detachable and zip out completely to give the awning more flexible usage. They would have door portals and window openings to enhance air flow, sometimes entirely zippered or constructed from mesh. Roofs may be heat-resistant, waterproof or seamless to better withstand the forces of nature. Caravan awnings are typically suited to numerous makes of caravans, and some are universal porch awnings that can be used at home, whether residential or commercial grade. Extra large awnings for big groups and parties are also offered.

The fabric used is often acrylic or polyester, sometimes custom treated or coated to be more hardwearing. The frames may be aluminum alloy, steel, iron or fiberglass, at times given the brandÕs own unique system for easy zipping out, installation and stowing. Because a caravan porch awning is freestanding, support poles are provided to brace the unit up, along with pegs, guy lines, pegging ladders and ladder rubbers, ties and straps to hold the unit in place. Pegging may be adjustable from hard to soft ground for easier pitches. Some models would be supplied with draught skirting, window drapes with rods, an arch cover, separate awning and pole bags. The great variety available in the market includes caravan awnings, motorhome awnings, full awnings, motorized awnings, porch awnings, tall and standard annexes, accessories and parts.
